    GenMail FAQ

  1. What is GenMail™?

GenMail™ is OneGreatFamily's way of letting you know how your family tree is growing. We periodically send out these emails when matches have been found or data has been merged.

  2. How can I view the added information?

When you launch your group, you may notice more yellow exclamation marks, light bulbs, and lightning bolts in your StarfieldT. Light bulbs (hints) indicate that there is information waiting for you to look at and merge. The lightning bolts indicate conflicts.

A yellow exclamation mark will appear in your StarfieldT wherever information has been merged into your genealogy

(Note: You must have this option turned on using the Merge Indicator button on the toolbar.)

  3. What are Family and Individual Hints and Merges?

All data that you put into OneGreatFamily is matched against data from other members. Each individual and family is a different record, and each record is separately dealt with in the merging process.

When two duplicate (or very similar) records are found, they are automatically merged. A yellow exclamation mark in the Starfield™ indicates a merged record.

If two records are similar, you will see a light bulb next to the record in your Starfield. Light bulbs are referred to as Hints. Click on the light bulb to bring up the similar record. The left box will contain your record, while the right box will contain the similar record.
