Answers

    Genealogy Browser

  1. What is Genealogy Browser?

Genealogy Browser™ is unique to OneGreatFamily. Genealogy Browser allows you to enter your family history information, starting with yourself and working backwards. Then, Genealogy Browser will search the family tree database that contains more than 110 million individuals to see what additional information it can find on your family.

  2. What is an Anchor?

An Anchor is a bookmark in your genealogy. If you begin to enter your information by typing in names, the first person that you enter into the Individual box will become your first Anchor. If you import a GEDCOM file into your group, the beginning individual from the GEDCOM file will become a new Anchor.

You can create a new anchor by right clicking on an individual in your Starfield and selecting "Create As New Anchor." You can delete an anchor using the Organize Anchors Page. (On the Anchors pull-down menu, select Organize Anchors.)

  3. What is Handprint?

Handprint™ is found on the left side of Genealogy Browser. Handprint is a view that allows you to see the genealogy of a selected individual at a glance, showing the selected individual's father, mother, siblings, spouse, and children.

Behind the scenes, OneGreatFamily uses special technology called Handprint Technology to make it all happen. The handprint concept is familiar. You have a unique fingerprint that identifies you as an individual. You also have a unique handprint that identifies you in Genealogy Browser. The palm of your hand represents you. Each finger on your hand represents a different relationship such as your father, mother, siblings, spouse, and children.

OneGreatFamily matches and merges family trees together using relationships or handprints rather than just names, dates and places.

  4. What is the Starfield™?

Starfield is one of the most exciting features of OneGreatFamily's Genealogy Browser. It is the graphical interface between you and your genealogy. Starfield removes the previous limitations in genealogy software with how you can view and display your genealogy. Within your Starfield are nodes (boxes) representing the individuals in your genealogy. These nodes can be reduced or enlarged to allow you to see the big picture all at once, or to zero in on the details of several individuals. When the nodes are reduced, you can literally see hundreds of individuals at once, yet still see the details of any individual by simply holding your cursor over any node.

  5. How can I print with Genealogy Browser™?

First, in Starfield select the individual whose genealogy you wish to print. You can then print from StarfieldT by going to File, Print. A box will appear giving three different print options: Family Record Form, Pedigree 5 Generation Chart, and Pedigree Wall Chart. Simply select your desired record and click on the print box in the lower right corner. Also, use Print Preview to see how the information will print out.

Before printing the Pedigree Wall Chart, use the Zoom feature on the far right side of the tool bar to adjust the pedigree to the desired size. This helps so that you can see names and dates, rather than just boxes.

  7. What is an OGFN (OneGreatFamily Number)?

An OFGN stands for a OneGreatFamily Number. Every individual entered into the OneGreatFamily database is assigned a unique OGFN. As two individuals cannot have the same fingerprint, the same is true of an individual's OGFN. OGFNs can be used to add individuals to your family tree or to see a specific individual's family tree.

  9. Genealogy Browser™ is already running

Only one session of Genealogy Browser can run on your computer at a time. If you see a message saying that the browser is already running, this probably means that it is running on another page behind this message. Look at the open programs listed on the Task bar to locate Genealogy Browser. If you cannot find the browser page, try ending the process for Z.exe in the Windows Task Manager or restart your computer.
